CMS 7.1 and off-box SQL on same subnet

some quick easy points for someone...

If memory serves me correct CMS 6 required off-box SQL and Altiris to reside on the same subnet. Does this still exist for 7.1/7.5?

We are looking at putting our DEV (30 clients max) into a cloud and need to know if SQL needs to go with it.

any links, tech doc or any reference needed to provide to management.
